EAA and AOPA Sign Agreement to form Strategic Alliance

Growth of General Aviation Pilot Population a Top Priority

By Maxine Scheer

EAA CEO and President Tom Poberezny and AOPA President Craig Fuller held a news conference in AeroShell Square at EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh Wednesday, signing a formal Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to solidify a closer working relationship intended to strengthen each organization’s respective efforts in representing the individual members of the general aviation community.

The signing of the MOU follows on a series of meetings intended to map out a working relationship between the two organizations, who often share the same individuals as members.  Poberezny commented that “in truth, EAA and AOPA are the two largest pilot organizations in the world.”  The leaders noted that each organization has strengths and are often working on the same issues for government policy and in other aspects of the industry.  “With the formalization of this relationship, we will be stronger,” said Fuller

Poberezny said of the MOU "Our goals are to grow general aviation, including Young Eagles, respond to industry issues and promote safety."
