Jetstar Hires First Female Chief Pilot

Will Oversee 900 Pilots Across The Fleet

Captain Geogina Sutton has been named the first female chief pilot of an Australian Airline.

Capt. Sutton flies for Jetstar, a subsidiary of Qantas. The BBC reports that Jetstar said in a statement: "This is the first time a female chief pilot has been appointed in Australia, and one of the first times for major airlines around the world."

Jetstar added that Capt. Sutton is "leading the way" for female pilots worldwide.

Capt. Sutton previously was a Boeing 767 captain for Qantas, where she was a fleet captain. In that role, she had responsibility for 180 pilots, according to the Sydney Morning Herald.

Capt. Sutton will become one of only a few female pilots in supervisory roles. She will assume her new duties in February.
