Aero-News Alert: C182 Busts ADIZ

ANN REALTIME UPDATE 06.05.06 2200 EDT -- The pilot who strayed into the Washington DC Air Defense Identification Zone early Monday evening was apparently trying to avoid bad weather.

That's the word from a spokesman with NORTHCOM, the Pentagon command center charged with homeland security, who also told Fox News the violation is not being viewed as a deliberate provocation.

Reuters points out Monday's ADIZ incursion comes three days after 17 purported al Qaeda sympathizers were arrested in Canada for allegedly planning to blow up targets in Ottawa and Toronto.

ORIGINAL REPORT

ANN REALTIME REPORTING 06.05.06 2015 EDT -- Aero-News has just received a tip on an apparent violation of the Washington DC ADIZ that occurred earlier this evening.

Information is sketchy at the moment, but the Cessna 182 was apparently intercepted by two F-16s, and escorted to land Montgomery County Airpark after the plane's pilot failed to answer repeated radio calls.

Reuters reports the aircraft was enroute from Philadelphia to Charlottesville, VA, and landed approximately 40 minutes ago.

"Currently U.S. Secret Service and Immigration and Customs Enforcement are investigating," said TSA spokeswoman Andrea McCauley.

ANN will be following this story VERY closely... stay tuned.
