International Women’s Air & Space Museum Announces Rocket Day 2023

Children's Activity Celebrates 60th Anniversary of 1st Woman in Space

The International Women’s Air & Space Museum (IWASM) is holding another fan favorite! Rocket Day 2023 is on once again.

The event has been a perennial fave for the museum, celebrating the anniversary of Valentina Tereshkova's flight into space every June 16. This year marks the 60th anniversary of Tereshkova's launch, as well as the 40th anniversary of Sally Ride’s similarly historic flight.

Rocket Day will allow kids aged 5 to 12 to learn about the history of rocketry, types of rockets, and build a variety of rockets perfect for eager students. Activities will require pre-registration for one of two sessions, the first running from 1030 to 1200 local, and the second from 1300 to 1430 eastern standard time. Adult chaperones are required, (the museum has not yet seen fit to expand into babysitting services, and has no plans to) and weather issues will be announced via registration info and rescheduled for a day with clearer skies.

Early bird registration opens now through June 9th, and costs $3 per person. For those who miss the cutoff, the price only bumps up by a dollar, with tickets available from June 10th through the 16th. Payments may be done through all the usual payment platforms via the museum's site, or via direct contact.

The museum is located inside Cleveland, Ohio's Burke Lakefront Airport, and exhibits are free of charge 7 days a week from 0800 to 2000 hrs.
