AA, US Airways Urge Employees To Help Fight Justice Department Lawsuit

Goal Is To Put Pressure On Lawmakers To Support Proposed Merger

American Airlines and US Airways have created an infrastructure that will give their employees assistance in expressing their views about the proposed merger between the two carriers.

Features recently added to American's 'newamericanarriving.com' website give those who support the merger an easy way to write to their elected officials with a simple message: "I am writing to express my strong support for the combination of American Airlines and US Airways."

The website automatically creates a form letter that can be customized by the sender, and will deliver it to the appropriate representatives based on Zip code.

The Dallas Morning News reports that the two airlines sent an open letter to employees asking them to take advantage of the website and form letter. "This is one way that you can make a real difference," airline officials said. The two airlines account for over 100,000 workers.

The two airlines also plan a "fly-in" to Washington, D.C. on September 17 for 300 employees for meetings with their members of the U.S. House and Senate. The meetings will be followed by an employee rally in the middle of Capitol Hill.

The U.S. District court in Washington, D.C. will hear the case on November 25.
