American Airlines Converts Orders To Larger A350XWB Airplanes

Change Appeared In Stock Exchange Filing Just After Christmas

American Airlines has converted all 22 of its orders for A350XWB airplanes to the larger -900 model with deliveries to begin in 2017. The order had originally been for 18 of the -800 variant and four of the -900 airplanes.

The move was revealed in a stock filing made December 27th, according to a report from FlightGlobal.

That leaves only 61 orders for the A350-800, according to data from Airbus. Twelve of those are from the leasing company Aircraft Purchase Fleet, 10 from Yemenia airline, and eight from Aeroflot.

American had previously modified its A350 order in November 2009 by delaying deliveries of the airplanes from 2015 to 2017. It first ordered the airplane in 2007, and had expected first deliveries in 2014.

The -900 airplane will carry 29 more passengers than will the -800 model, according to Airbus.
