Two Lost In PA-30 Accident Near LAL

Witnesses Heard Plane's Engines Cut Out

A Piper Twin Comanche went down shortly after takeoff Monday morning near Lakeland Linder Regional Airport in central Florida, killing the two men onboard.

The South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports the 1967 PA-30 crashed 15 minutes after takeoff from LAL, on the property of the inactive North Kingsford Mine in Mulberry.

Witnesses say they heard the aircraft's engines sputtering, before the plane impacted the ground in a nose-down attitude.

Photos from the scene show the fuselage largely intact aft of the passenger compartment. The aircraft came down on a dirt road.

The identities of the two men onboard have not been released.

The aircraft, identified as N387RP, is registered to an individual from Port Orange, FL.
