Appearing at EAA AirVenture and A & E Network
Randy Henderson, is a 24-year airshow veteran and 25 year pilot,
currently Captain, for Southwest Airlines. The three-time National
and former International IAC aerobatic champion will be performing
here at AirVenture throughout the week.
He pilots The Texas T-Cart, a highly modified 1946 Clipped Wing
Taylorcraft BC-12D. Henderson performs two distinct routines. The
T-Cart's "aerial ballet" is a powered routine of Randy's signature
maneuvers choreographed to mellow music.
Henderson will also perform a power off, safety of flight demo.
Known as the "dead stick", it has an interactive format with a
comedic flair. The "dead stick" routine was passed on to Henderson
by his mentor, legendary airman Duane Cole. Cole, EAA member number
eight, passed away earlier this year.
Henderson will be featured on the A&E cable network program
"Airline" in early August. Te A&E crew followed Henderson over
the course of seven days. "It's a unique turn of events for my
Southwest Airlines job to promote my airshow flying –
especially when it's been the exact reverse for so many years,"
Henderson said recently.
Henderson cited this instance; "The best example of this was
back in 2000 when I became the Sporty's Formula One National
Aerobatic Champion for the second time in a row. Sporty's Pilot
Shop put the Texas T-Cart on the cover of one of their catalogs
– with a Southwest Boeing 737 in the background".
You can catch Henderson at the Port-A-Cool booth in the
FlyMarket each morning during AirVenture. His performances are
sponsored by Port-A-Cool, a Texas based manufacturer of portable,
evaporative cooling units.
