BRS Notes First Cessna Save

Deployment Came Within 400 Feet Of The Ground On Departure

An attorney who had just had a BRS airframe parachute installed in his Cessna 182 is probably pretty thankful that he spent the money. Two days after the installation was complete, Holly Springs, MS, attorney John Booh Farese pulled the handle on the system after his engine failed on takeoff Monday night.

In an e-mail to ANN, BRS president and CEO Larry Williams said "(w)hile this was a deployment very close to the ground, it is with great pleasure that I can announce our first BRS-182 save!  The parachute system installation was just finished ... and the pilot/owner picked the plane up. During takeoff the engine quit over trees and the pilot deployed the chute at 300-400 feet.

"The pilot was able to get out of the aircraft, but has knee and back injuries and is currently in the hospital."

Williams said the company had to resolve several issues to get the  system delivered. He said this is the second system this pilot has purchased from BRS. He also bought the 6th BRS-172 system which was installed by the same firm that installed his 182 system.
