BA Flight Flies To Wrong Destination

Incorrectly Filed Flight Plan Directed The Airplane To Scotland Rather Than Germany

A paperwork error sent a British Airways flight on a 525-mile trip to Edinburgh, Scotland rather than its intended destination of Düsseldorf, Germany Monday.

Fox News reports that the airline confirmed the error, which it blamed on an incorrectly filed flight plan.

The carrier said in a statement to Fox News that it was working with the German firm WDL Aviation, which operated the flight for BA. “We are working with WDL Aviation, who operated this flight on behalf of British Airways, to establish why the incorrect flight plan was filed. We have apologized to customers for this interruption to their journey and will deal with them all individually,” the carrier said in a statement.

BA said that the flight eventually departed for Düsseldorf about two-and-a-half-hours after what it described as an "involuntary stopover in Edinburgh." It turned what would have been a 70-minute flight into a six-hour trip.

British Airways said that the passengers were never in any danger.
