Barnes Air Show In Westfield, MA Cancelled By Organizers

Were Unable To Secure A Jet Team As A Headline Act

The 104th Fighter Wing of the Massachusetts Air National Guard had planned to put on the Barnes Air National Guard Air Base air show in 2016 for the first time since 2010.

It was not to be.

The show, planned for September 10 and 11 at the base, has been cancelled. 104th Public Affairs Spokesman Sr. Television station WWLP reports that Senior Master Sergeant Robert Sabonis said that the decision was based on the inability to secure a jet demonstration team to anchor the air show. Without that major draw, the decision was made to cancel the event altogether.

But Sabonis was not entirely negative about the show. He said that the base would try again to secure a jet team so that they could host an event in 2017.

The 104th last held an air show at Barnes ANG Base in 2010. Since that time, operational deployments and training exercises have prevented the unit from putting on an air show.

Hopefully that will change in 2017.
