"This audit report underscores that the user fee debate is about more than policy. How in the world can they price their 'product' -- air traffic control services -- if they can't track their assets or their costs?"

Source: Phil Boyer, president of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, commenting on the results of an independent audit of the FAA's accounting practices. The audit was commissioned by the Department of Transportation's Inspector General -- and, AOPA says, shows the FAA can't properly account for almost $5 billion in assets and property. Most of that is attributed to the new Air Traffic Organization (ATO), which runs the air traffic control system.
