First Flight Of Airlander Hybrid Air Vehicle Postponed

Technical Issue Forced Delay

The first flight of the Airlander 10 hybrid air vehicle was postponed Sunday by a technical issue that the team could not correct before nightfall.

Fox News reports that the aircraft was scheduled to fly Sunday, but a "slight technical issue" that could not be corrected before nightfall forced the postponement, according to Stephen McGlennan, chief executive of Hybrid Air Vehicles.

The 302-foot-long Airlander 10 will be flight-tested from Cardington airfield about 45 miles south of London. The British built airships there during WWI. That program was halted after an accident that fatally injured 50 people, including Britain's air minister at the time.

Hybrid Air Vehicles says the Airlander 10 is designed to stay aloft for up to two weeks, and travel as fast as 90 miles per hour.

No new date for a first flight has been set, according to the company.
