Volatus Infrastructure Announces eVTOL Milestone
As the explosive growth of the AAM industry looms, those involved in the construction and maintenance of supporting facilities have begun laying the groundwork needed for an industry full of electric vertical takeoff aircraft.
Volatus Infrastructure worked with the leadership at Wittman Regional Airport and the Greater Oshkosh Economic Development Corporation to develop, design, and complete the vertiport. It is under construction near the Wittman Regional Airport and will include a terminal with amenities, a landing pad, and a vehicle agnostic charging station.
A brand-neutral charging solution is part and parcel of Volatus systems, who have built their name on one-size-fits-all charging systems that simplify procurement for those whose eyes glaze over when reading industry standards. Recently, the FAA began working with the industry in a collaborative effort to create a vertiport standard for upcoming UAM and eVTOL aircraft. With an Advisory Circular brewing, many things remain up in the air, but the basics are simple: A "minimally developed facility is required to be defined for the boarding and discharging of passengers and cargo," along with open airspace in the immediate vicinity. Volatus seems to be following this layout, as seen in previous mockups. A terminal, landing pad, and some charging systems are all that's needed to be off to the races.
“The future of air transportation lands today and it lands here in Oshkosh, Wisconsin” said Grant Fisk, co-founder of Volatus. “Volatus is able to provide an infrastructure solution at a price point that will grant greater access to the eVTOL industry.”
"The Volatus development allows us continued revitalization of our airport by integrating future aviation technology into existing infrastructure," said Wittman Regional Airport Director Jim Schell.
