NTSB Looking At Photo, Video Evidence In T-28 Accident

Open Panel Seen On Airplane Before It Went Down

The NTSB has obtained a photograph that appears to show an open inspection panel on the T-28 which went down during an air show in Martinsburg,WV, September 17th. Pilot John Mangan of Concord, NC, was fatally injured when the plane went down.

The Associated Press reports that the open access panel was noticed by a Maryland State Police pilot reading about the accident in The Martinsburg Journal. Pilot Dave Cooper said an open access panel could, in his opinion, affect the elevator control on the aircraft.

NTSB spokesman Peter Knudson told the AP that the photograph was a welcome piece of evidence that was under review, but cautioned against any speculation as to the cause of the accident.
