The Sikorsky-Boeing SB>1 DEFIANT helicopter achieved first flight yesterday. Developed by Sikorsky and Boeing, the Definat’s two coaxial main rotors and a rear mounted pusher propulsor, is unlike current production rotorcraft -- designed to meet the U.S. government’s desire for increases in speed and range while improving maneuverability and survivability. Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao has asked that, as part of an ongoing review of factors related to aviation certification, the Inspector General conduct a formal audit of the certification process for the Boeing 737-MAX 8 aircraft. Next week’s Airborne schedule will be preempted so that we may bring you the 2019 AEA Convention and Trade Show... LIVE.
