NMAAA Announces STEM Expo

Sixth Annual Event To Be Held September 27th In Alamogordo

The New Mexico Aviation Aerospace Association announced details today about their upcoming New Mexico Aviation Aerospace STEM Expo being held Thursday, September 27th, 9 am to 3 pm at the Alamogordo-White Sands Regional Airport, Alamogordo, NM.

This an educational/diversity outreach event targeting young adults ages 13-21. This event focuses on science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) while promoting general aviation and the aviation aerospace industry within the state of New Mexico.

"Our mission is to educate and motivate," said Bill Shuert, president of the NMAAA. “Our goal is to provide the necessary outreach to each attendee to help them better understand; general aviation, aerospace industry, opportunities for employment in NM and the vital role of the US Military. We want these students to understand firsthand what they need to do to better prepare themselves academically to pursue a challenging career."

Attendees will directly interact with hands on displays while engaging in activities that feature displays in aviation aerospace, over 50 general aviation aircraft, numerous military aircraft, higher education institutions, science demonstrations, flight training schools and other military displays. The students will also have numerous opportunities to talk with pilots, engineers, educators and industry partners who can tell them what careers are available in the aviation, aerospace and military career fields.

Our 2017 event was a huge success with over 2,900 students attending the event. We are very fortunate to have BendixKing and the City of Alamogordo sponsor this event with numerous mission partners like NM Aviation Division, US Customs and Border Patrol, AeroVonics, Aspen Avionics, Sandia aerospace, DeVore Aviation, Ed’s Flying Service, Exile Aviation and Holloman AFB.

This will be our 6th Annual event which was originally held in Albuquerque. We will be in Alamogordo for 2018 and moving to Roswell for 2019. With New Mexico being the 5th largest state in the US we need to move around to make the most possible contact with our students. To date, over 19,000 New Mexicans have experienced our program. Our program is also the largest STEM/Aviation event in the US.
