Pilot Fatally Injured In E-Racer Forced Landing Accident

Well-Known Homebuilder Jack Morrison Was Making The First Flight In The Aircraft

An E-Racer experimental aircraft on its first flight nosed over while attempting an off-airport emergency landing on July 31st, fatally injuring the builder/pilot of the airplane. Jack Morrison, 73, was the only person on board the aircraft at the time of the accident.

FAA preliminary data indicates that the accident occurred near Aurora Municipal Airport in Sugar Grove, IL, west of Chicago. "Aircraft on landing nosed over, the 1 person on board was fatally injured" the report reads.

The aircraft is based on the Rutan Long-EZ design. On the Eracer Aircraft Construction website, Morrison is hailed as "a great pioneer and gifted builder." He was testing his latest variant of the Eracer which he had dubbed "X-Treme."

Lt. Patrick Gengler, spokesman for the Kane County Sheriff's Office told local media outlets that "for an unknown reason" and crashed into a cornfield nearby."
