Company Celebrating Their 25th Anniversary
The global simulator manufacturer Alsim once again has two large, high fidelity simulators, the AL172 and AL250, available to fly in Hangar B during EAA AirVenture. Celebrating their 25th anniversary this year, Alsim is accompanied on their booth by the simulator’s new owners Kent State University in Ohio and the University of Dubuque in Iowa.
Kent State’s Alsim AL172 is an exact replica of a brand-new Cessna 172 Skyhawk with real Garmin G1000 NXI. Located next to the AL172 is Alsim’s AL250 which was purchased by both Kent State and University of Dubuque. The AL250 is an enclosed, reconfigurable simulator with three classes of aircraft and industry leading 250-degree visuals, making it an ideal, cost effective trainer for various licenses and ratings like your PPL, IR and CPL.
Both sims contain some of Alsim’s latest simulator enhancements, part of a long list of planned upgrades since the French headquartered manufacturer launched a three-year software development plan in early 2019. This includes Alsim’s latest, next generation Image Generator (IG) known as VFRVS, which addresses the increasing demand for increased realism in flight simulators in order to be as close to reality as possible. As Alsim develops a large majority if its hardware and software in house, their research and development team recently reworked their home-grown 3D engine to take the most from the latest generation graphic cards and source data available in order to offer a better general aviation simulator experience.
Matched to the new VFRVS is an apparatus located in the pilot’s seat commonly known as a ‘butt kicker’. The piece of equipment, located under the left seat, allows the pilot to better ‘feel’ the sensation of flight such as vibrations of the engine, bad turbulence and hard landings. This further adds to the immersion of the simulator and therefore provides better, more realistic training.
Alsim is located in Hangar B at AirVenture.
