AeroSports Update: EAA And IMC Club Join Forces

General Aviation Instrument Pilots Gain An Additional Resource For Staying IFR Current

Recreational aviation includes thousands of pilots that are instrument rated and exercise their instrument privileges. Whether for business or recreational flying, maintaining instrument proficiency and staying up-to-date on issues dealing with instrument flying can be a challenge. Now, EAA and IMC Clubs have joined to make instrument flying safe.

IMC Clubs is the brain child of Radek Wyrzykowski; a Master Certified Flight Instructor Instrument and Multi-Engine Instructor. As a flight instructor in Norwood, MA, Radek developed a volunteer mentor program to help instrument pilots improve their proficiency, and they loved it. “When the web site launched and offered to help others start local chapters, it took off like a storm", Wyrzykowski said.

At IMC Club their purpose is to promote instrument flying, proficiency and safety. Along with IFR flying and monthly local chapter meetings, IMC Club offer a resource rich website which provides an electronic experience base.

The intent of IMC Club is to create a community of pilots in order to share information, provide recognition, foster communications, promote safety and build proficiency in instrument flying. IMC Club Chapters offer monthly meetings in which pilots can network and share knowledge and experiences.

Effective November 2nd, the chapter resources and scenarios are being produced and distributed as a new program by EAA IMC, LLC (EAA IMC), an Experimental Aircraft Association subsidiary, under a license from IMC Club International, Inc. This will provide resources for new and improved program offerings that will enhance and expand the impact of the IMC concept. IMC Club leaders will continue to receive scenarios on schedule, prepared and produced by Radek, but now under the sponsorship of EAA IMC.

To provide continuity, support, direction and programming, Radek Wyrzykowski is now the Manager of Flight Proficiency with EAA IMC. With more than 190,000 members and nearly 900 chapters, being part of the EAA family will provide the network, critical mass, and resources to take flight safety and proficiency to the next level. In this transition there will be no significant structural or philosophical change in the mission that has always motivated IMC.

IMC members that joined prior to November 2nd have been transitioned to a membership in EAA. Those that are not current EAA members can take advantage of IMC programming by joining EAA. A membership in EAA will entitle members to all of the services EAA offers, as well as EAA IMC flight safety and proficiency programming.
