More Than Just Propellers
By Gene Yarbrough
Hartzell is a name often associated with aircraft propellers. However, Hartzell Engine Technologies is the diversified arm of the venerable company associated with providing products and services aimed at keeping the fan spinning up front.
After a brief historical review of the company’s origins and progression, President Mike Disbrow discussed recent business updates including acquiring C&D Associates and Sky-Tec, bringing Janitrol Aero Cabin Heating Systems and Sky-Tec starters under the Hartzell umbrella. Both businesses have been relocated to Hartzell’s Montgomery Alabama headquarters.
In addition to Hartzell’s business additions the company announced 2 new product lines of alternators and a new program providing complete systems and components to Tecnam on their new P2012 Traveler platform. Hartzell now offers two new high performance alternators, the ES-6024D a 60 amp 24-volt replacement for the CMI Crittenden 646843 Alternator. Mike stated this alternator choice is more modern and reliable, is FAA PMA approved, and available for Beech Barons, Cessna TTx’s, and early Cirrus SR22. Also new in the electricity generating arena is the Plane-Power C28-150/C147-100 line of alternators which is newly reintroduced. These alternators are also FAA PMA approved, offer 28-volts and 14-volts respectively, are factory rebuilt, provide high output even at idle conditions, and are highly efficient, cool running designs.
Hartzell Engine Technologies is working closely with Tecnam on their new twin aircraft, providing turbochargers, fuel pumps, e-drive starters, alternators and cabin heaters for the program.
HET has also developed educational videos, available on the company website as well as YouTube, providing pilots and mechanics with valuable knowledge on operation and maintenance of Hartzell Engine Technologies products.
