Airline Imposes Three-Drink Limit

SAS Says It Hopes To Cut Down On Flight Disturbances By Inebriated Passengers

Scandinavian carrier SAS has released new guidelines suggesting that passengers should be limited to three alcoholic beverages on its intra-European flights.

USA Today relays a report from Swedish news site The Local that says SAS officials hope to crack down on problems caused by passengers who have had too much to drink.

SAS spokesman  Malin Selander told The Local that there had been a few "situations" last year, but that he could not offer any details.

"These are not hard-and-fast rules," Selander said, "but guidelines that cabin crew can lean on so that if passengers appear to be getting too drunk, they can be asked to stop drinking."

Earlier this year, Ryanair began telling passengers that they were not allowed to carry alcoholic beverages of any kind onto planes flying between Glasgow and Ibiza, a resort in Spain.

In 2014, the IATA called for actions that would lead to fewer flights being disrupted by "unruly" passengers.
