Classic Aero-TV: Kitfox On Steroids - 180 HP(!) for Your Kitfox STi

From 2016 (YouTube Version): Kitfox Innovates With Their STi Variation Of The Series 7 Super Sport Kit Airplane…

When visiting EAA AirVenture it can be fun to walk around to see what’s new; to look at what’s never been there before. However, sometimes what is new is when you find a well-established company that has weathered the aviation storm and is still innovating. An example of this is the Kitfox Aircraft Company.

While at EAA AirVenture 2016, ANN CEO and Editor-In-Chief, Jim Campbell, visited with John McBean, the President and CEO of Kitfox Aircraft to talk about a new variation of the STOL inspired kit airplane. To find out what’s new with the STi this year, look no further than under the cowling.

With a 180hp Continental Titan engine onboard, McBean says that the Kitfox STi is ready to compete with the Carbon Cub. McBean also took some time to describe the other changes to the airframe, which was announced at AirVenture 2015, including the wing and the landing gear. Both these upgrades make the STi an even more powerful backcountry airplane.

McBean said the Series 7 Super Sport has always been noted for its short field performance, but people still wanted more. The STi variation of this provided major changes to create an airplane that is specifically designed for the purpose of short takeoff or landing operations.

Listen in as McBean describes what they’ve done to create a new STOL airplane, and let our video provides the visual details.
