Lion Air To Order 60 Boeing Aircraft

Deal Is Blow To Airbus

When you're hot, you're hot -- Boeing Thursday was set to sign a deal with low-cost Lion Air of Indonesia. The called for 60 737s to replace Lion's aging fleet of MD-80s.

It was a remarkable blow to Airbus, which had competed with Boeing for the deal, offering Lion Air its A320s against the 737s.

The 60 aircraft carry a list price of $4.4 billion.

Boeing Statement

The agreement includes a combination of 737-800s and the proposed 737-900X, pending finalization of the definitive agreement and a launch of the 737-900X.

We look forward to continuing to work closely with this valued customer as it expands its operations and serves its passengers.

The Next-Generation 737s fly higher, faster, farther, and more quietly than comparable airplanes, while offering greater fuel efficiency. Overall the 737 airplane family is the world's best-selling commercial jet airplane, with more than 5,500 ordered by 220 customers.
