Aero-TV: Improved Alto NG Available for U.S. Sale

Czech List Items

Designed and produced by Czech ultralight and Light-Sport Aircraft (LSA) concern Direct Fly Alto, the Alto NG (Next Generation) is a two-place, full-cantilever low-wing monoplane perched atop a fixed tricycle undercarriage.

The Alto NG’s fuselage comprises primarily aluminum, and the machine’s empennage features conventional fixed vertical and horizontal stabilizers with hinged rudder and elevator assemblies and composite fairings.

The aircraft is powered by a single, forward-mounted, one-hundred-horsepower, naturally-aspirated, fuel-injected, four-cylinder, horizontally-opposed, Rotax 912ULs engine featuring liquid-cooled cylinder heads and air-cooled cylinders.

The Alto NG’s flight-controls are of the dual-stick, dual-rudder-pedal-pair persuasion and facilitate excellent control feel. Articulation of the aircraft’s flight-control-surfaces is via push-rods exclusively. Nosewheel steering is coupled directly to both sets of the Alto NG’s rudder-pedals. The aircraft’s hydraulic main-wheel brakes are controlled by a lever located on the center-panel.

Access to the Alto NG’s closed, two-seat, side-by-side cockpit is improved by two footsteps affixed bilaterally to the ventral fuselage just aft of the main-wing’s trailing edge. The NG’s cockpit canopy is mounted on rails and slides forward, facilitating ease of removal and maintenance.

Loaded to its 1,322-pound (600-kilogram) maximum takeoff weight, the Alto NG’s airframe is capable of enduring stresses of +4 and -2 G. The airframe, however, has been tested at 1,433 pounds (650-kilograms) to +6 and -3 G. Based on an advertised empty weight of 683-pounds (310-kilograms), the Alto NG’s useful load—to include fuel—is 639-pounds (289-kilograms). Fuel capacity is 24-gallons (92-liters/144-pounds) of 100LL.

The Alto NG’s 132-knot Vne and 35-knot Vso stall-speed are interposed by cruise speeds spanning forty to 110-knots. Stall characteristics incline toward docile on account of the aircraft’s rectangular wing and the blunt leading-edge thereof. At its best climb speed of sixty-knots, the Alto NG will allegedly manage sea-level climb-rates of 1,020-feet-per-minute. Direct Fly Alto specifies no service-ceiling for the aircraft.

The Alto Ng, after the fashion of its Alto 100 predecessor, is available in three competition stages: a disassembled BASIC KIT, an assembled airframe QUICK KIT, and a fully-assembled READY TO FLY kit. Each kit includes appropriate technical drawings and detailed manuals.
