Pilot Ejects As Second F-16 Goes Down Monday

Nevada Crash Occurred Hours After Bailout Near Florida Keys

Scratch two F-16 Vipers from US Air Force inventory. Hours after a pilot bailed out safely before his F-16 crashed into the ocean off the Florida Keys Monday morning, a second F-16 crashed in the Nevada Test and Training Range north of Las Vegas. As with the first accident, the pilot was able to eject safely.

The cause of the Monday night accident is under investigation, said officials with Nellis Air Force Base.

As Aero-News reported, the cause of the Florida accident was classified as a "plane malfunction," with the exact cause as yet undetermined.

Officials at Nellis had no reports Tuesday on what may have led to the Nevada crash.
