New 4,000 Watt AC-to-AC Converter Survives & Thrives in Harsh, Unpressurized Environments of Large Aircraft
True Blue Power has announced their new purpose-built frequency converter designed to conquer difficult, harsh operating environments while providing 4,000-watt AC-to-AC frequency conversion.
The positioning can vary from one aircraft to another, but the theme is the same: Equipment placed deep in the bowels of the machine, unpressurized and non-temperature-controlled, tends to wear over time as it's subjected to difficult, corrosive forces flight after flight. Compounding the problem, access is usually limited, being a cramped, inconvenient affair that precludes frequent maintenance until it is absolutely necessary. True Blue has taken on the challenge, designing the TFC4000 to be a quiet, efficient frequency converter that can endure harsh operating environments for years on end with nary a complaint.
The TFC4000 is billed as capable of producing 15% more power than the competing units, turning a 3-phase 115 VAC at 360 to 800 Hz into single-phase 115 VAC at 60 Hz. The AC-to-AC frequency converter powers the outlets spread throughout the aircraft in order to supply a range of appliances, electronics, and systems with in-flight power. These days, as passengers increasingly look to personal devices to carry a significant amount of their in-flight entertainment load, charging point provisions are vital to customer satisfaction - and for pilots, the coffee maker has to run somehow.
The TFC4000 manages to come in at a tad under 20 pounds, about 30% lighter than competing systems, making it the "lightest frequency converter in its power class," according to Blue. Equipped with its own independent temperature and speed-controlled fans, the converter boasts significant noise reductions over legacy systems, especially improved in hard-to-access areas subjected to large temp fluctuations.
