First Flight: TAI T129 Helicopter

Prototype Attack/Tactical Recon Helo From Turkish Aerospace

The T129 "P6" prototype helicopter successfully completed its first flight Monday, according to a news release from Turkish Aerospace Industries, Inc. (TAI). The first flight was conducted by TAI's test pilots at TAI's facilities in Akinci (Ankara), Turkey.

The ATAK Program was initiated with the aim to meet the Attack/Tactical Reconnaissance Helicopter requirements of the Turkish Land Forces Command (TLF) by the integration of high-tech avionic equipment, hardware and software which will be developed in Turkey.

TAI says the first flight of the P6 prototype, which was assembled at its facilities in Ankara, marks an important milestone in the ATAK Program. It is the first of a total of three T129 prototypes to be assembled in Turkey, and TAI officials say it shows the level of technology achieved by Turkish Aerospace Industries, Inc.
