The FAA has proposed a rule that overhauls the airworthiness standards for small general aviation airplanes.

The FAA’s proposal, which is based on industry recommendations, would reduce the time it takes to get safety enhancing technologies for small airplanes into the marketplace while also reducing cost. The Notice of Proposed Rulemaking restructures the existing certification standards and replaces the current prescriptive design requirements in FAR Part 23. It would also add new certification standards to address general aviation loss of control accidents and in-flight icing conditions. A social media post by an Egyptian flight student has resulted in him ending up in an Orange, California jail facing possible deportation. The Associated Press reports that Emad El-Sayed posted on Facebook that he would be "willing to kill Donald Trump and serve a life sentence,” and that “[T]he whole world would thank me for doing that.” Bombardier has announced that the European Aviation Safety Agency has granted full type certification to the Bombardier Challenger 650 aircraft. David Coleal, the President, Bombardier Business Aircraft said in part, "Our Challenger 650 aircraft successfully entered into service in 2015 and is now about to make its European debut in 2016. Demand for this aircraft is strong around the world and with certification now in-hand, we are eager for EASA-registered customers to experience this brand new jet.” All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne!!!
