BuildAPlane Preps For Third Annual Teachers Day At AirVenture

Program Helps Educators Put Aviation In The Classroom

The non-profit aviation education organization BuildAPlane, in cooperation with GAMA and EAA, will sponsor Teacher's Day at AirVenture in Oshkosh again this year. The event is scheduled for Tuesday, July 26th, 2011, and will exposure teachers to a variety of programs and curricula that allow educators to put aviation in classrooms, from kindergarten through high school grades. Teachers from across the United States are invited to participate at no charge.

"We are amazed how many great opportunities are out there to use aviation to engage and motivate kids to learn," says Lyn Freeman, Build A Plane's president. "Today's students respond to real world applications, and aviation really captures their attention."

Teachers will be exposed to materials available from private industry, the federal government and aviation organizations that exposure students to all aspects of aviation, from vocation to avocation. Participants will have the opportunity to take part in a number of hands-on presentations and to speak directly to program specialists. A wide variety of free take-home materials will be available for all attendees.

Participants who register and attend Teacher's Day get a free lunch and free admission to AirVenture. "It's truly been an honor to watch Teacher's Day grow over the years," said Katrina Bradshaw, BuildAPlane's executive director. "Last year we had teachers come all the way from Alaska, from Native villages that are hundreds of miles from the nearest road. If you want to see just how committed to aviation America's educators can be, come to Teacher's Day at AirVenture!"

Organizations presenting material at Build A Plane's Teachers' Day include the United States Department of Energy, the Federal Aviation Administration, the National Air and Space Museum, AOPA, NASA, EAA, GAMA and many others.

Teachers' Day at AirVenture is made possible by the generous support of EAA and the General Aviation Manufacturer's Association (GAMA).
