F/A-18 Runs Into Hangar At Buckley AFB

Pilot Unhurt

A US Navy F/A-18 had an unfortunate run in with an Air Force hangar in Colorado Thursday. The fighter didn't win, but the hangar didn't look so good. No one was hurt.

The Hornet, returning to NAS Oceana, VA, from a training exercise in Fallon, NV, was landing at Buckley AFB in Colorado, when it apparently ran out of runway before it ran out of speed.

Initial reports said the pilot ejected while the airplane was still rolling down the runway. Later reports indicated the brakes failed, but were unclear about the status of the pilot at the time the F/A-18 impacted the building.

In any case, the Hornet came to rest with its nose inside the building.

The military was investigating the incident. The name of the pilot was not released. The aircraft and its pilot were one of three aircraft on a training mission in Fallon. The incident aircraft was with Strike Fighter Squadron 106 based at Oceana.
