Carrier Has Introduced Its First Trent XWB Powered Airbus A350
Rolls-Royce joins South African Airways in celebrating the introduction of the airline’s first Airbus A350 aircraft powered by Rolls-Royce Trent XWB engines.
South African Airways will welcome a total of four Airbus A350 aircraft, each of which will enter service before the end of the year. Powering these aircraft is the Rolls-Royce Trent XWB engine, the world’s most efficient large aero engine.
Since entering service in 2015, the Trent XWB powers over 300 aircraft, which are in service with 29 operators, and to date it has flown more than five million engine-flying hours.
"With this we extend our relationship with Rolls-Royce and the Trent family of engines by adding the Trent XWB to a fleet that already includes the Trent 700, powering the Airbus A330s,” said Zuks Ramasia, Acting CEO, South African Airways.
“We warmly welcome the arrival of South African Airways’ first Airbus A350, powered by our Trent XWB engines. Rolls-Royce has a long and proud history of working with South African Airways and we deeply value our close relationship,” said Ryan Goodnight, Rolls-Royce, vice president – Customers. “The decision to bring A350s to the South African Airways’ fleet ensures that our partnership will remain strong for many years to come.”
The Trent XWB is specifically designed for the A350 and is the fastest-selling engine for widebody aircraft, with more than 1,800 sold globally to date. The Trent XWB is a member of the Trent family of seven engines, which collectively have accumulated more than 140 million flying hours since the first Trent entered service in 1995.
