South African Officials 'Mystified' At Stowaway Reports

No Word On Victim's ID Or How He Got Into The Aircraft

How did a stowaway, whose mutilated body was found in the wheel well of a South African Airways Airbus A340 upon landing at JFK Airport in New York Tuesday, get there in the first place?

That's the first of several questions for which South African officials still have no answers, one day after parts of the body fell on a home in Floral Park, NY. No one on the ground was hurt as a leg, hip and spine crashed through the roof of a home when the crew aboard Flight 203 lowered the landing gear.

Authorities suspect the stowaway was killed shortly after Flight 203 departed Dakar, Senegal. The flight had originated in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Regardless of whether the body was crushed when the gear was raised, the combination of extreme altitude and frigid temperatures would have most certainly killed the stowaway, authorities said.
