Customer Expects STC Soon
CMC Electronics told ANN
this week Edwards & Associates, a subsidiary of Bell
Helicopter, has installed the CMC Electronics SureSight M-Series
Enhanced Vision System (EVS) sensor on an Agusta Westland AW139
helicopter for a corporate customer.
"We are very excited about this new CMC product," said Dwayne
Starnes, Director Marketing & Sales at Edwards &
Associates. "Our customers should find the M-Series EVS sensor to
be a very effective aid in improving flight safety and enhancing
flight crew situational awareness."
CMC tells ANN the ultra compact, low-cost M-Series EVS sensor
improves situational awareness by providing pilots with a
daytime-like image at night and in low-visibility situations for
commercial, business/corporate and paramilitary operations. The
M-Series sensor weighs 2.2 lb and measures 2.4 inches by 2.5 inches
by 6 inches in length. A notable feature is the M-Series' single
Line Replaceable Unit that can be easily installed on a helicopter
fuselage or strut or in the tail fin or nose of an aircraft.
"The SureSight M-Series EVS sensor is a cost-effective
infrared-based safety tool for helicopter flight crews flying in
darkness, smoke, smog or other poor visibility conditions," said
CMC Vice President Marketing & Sales, Cathy Bain. "EVS offers
supplemental terrain awareness in these types of scenarios to help
prevent pilot disorientation when there is no peripheral scene
information available. EVS provides the pilot with excellent
infrared imaging of the area in the forward flight path of the
helicopter to provide early detection and avoidance of obstacles
such as towers, trees, vehicles and buildings."
Edwards & Associates expects to receive the FAA STC shortly
for the CMC Electronics M-Series EVS sensor being installed in its
AW139.
