GE Cutting 307 Engineering Jobs Nationwide

Most Of Those Will Be Let Go From Southwestern Ohio Plant

GE Aviation is cutting 307 engineering jobs as the company moves from development to production of new engines, the company said last week.

The online news source Madison.com reports that GE spokesman Rick Kennedy said that with the shift from R&D to production, the company cannot maintain its current level of 4,300 engineers in the United Sates. The bulk of those jobs lost, some 238, will come from the company's facility in southwestern Ohio, Kennedy said. "Significant effort has been made to move as many engineers as possible to other positions at GE Aviation and other GE businesses," he said.

More than 3,000 engineers will still be employed by GE Aviation, Kennedy told Madison.com. Voluntary early retirement will be offered to several hundred eligible engineers.

Notices of the reduction in the workforce began going out at the end of January.
