FAA To Hold AWTT Board Meeting During NBAA

The FAA will hold an informal meeting gauging input from users of current convective weather products on products currently in development. The meeting will be held during the NBAA Convention 2005 in Orlando, FL on Thursday Nov. 10 from 1-5pm in Room N210A of the Orlando Orange County Convention Center.

According to the FAA, the meeting will be held to allow its Aviation Weather Technology Transfer Board input from actual users into the usability of current products on the market designed to help pilots avoid hazardous weather systems. The AWTT board -- which was formed in 1999 in part to help bring such products out of R&D and into production -- meets semiannually to determine the readiness of weather products in development, bringing in meteorologists and end users alike to evaluate such products.

While the FAA has the sole authority in making the decision to certify such products, the agency also said "it behooves the FAA to not make decisions in a vacuum."

The meeting is free for NBAA attendees; however, there is a fee to attend the conference.
