Video Shows Pilot Shoving A Female Police Officer Near His Aircraft
A British helicopter pilot hired to fly the Kenyan Deputy President to a political rally has been arrested after shoving a female police officer he said was not doing her job.
The U.K. newspaper The Telegraph reports that the pilot, identified as 41-year-old Alistair Llewelyn, was hired to fly Deputy President William Ruto to a political rally in central Kenya last weekend.
In a video being circulated on social media, Llewelyn is seen getting out of his aircraft and pushing a female police officer in uniform and accusing her of not keeping the crowds away from the aircraft. He takes the officer's baton and shouts "Do your **** job" and later saying "And then you will explain to the DP."
Ruto said the incident was "unacceptable and regrettable" and called for a police investigation. A spokesman for Ruto said the Deputy President had not personally hired the pilot. David Mugonyi, Mr Ruto’s communication secretary, said; “You cannot expect us to take charge of every personnel hired for the DP. If you hire a taxi and the taximan misbehaves, will you be responsible?"
Llewelyn's employer, Kwae Island Development, said in a statement that the company had "terminated the agreement between Saker Resource Management and the pilot."
Llewelyn has been arrested on charges of causing a hazard and assaulting a police officer.
The officer had reportedly been using her cell phone to call for reinforcements for crowd control because she did not have a radio.
