On This, Boeing And Airbus Can Agree

2005 Was A Record Sales Year

It's not often you get to break two records in the same year... but that's what it looks like for Boeing. In addition to breaking the non-stop long distance record with the Boeing 777-200-LR, the Chicago-based aerospace giant is headed for a record year for sales -- as is their archrival, Airbus.

According to Forbes, a lot of that business is coming from Asia and the Middle East -- two markets just now beginning to boom.

The Center for Pacific Aviation says Boeing plans to log 950 orders for all of 2005. That breaks the previous all-time high for sales in a single year at Boeing, set in 1988 with 877 orders.

And while we're not in the business of comparing apples to, um, apples, Airbus orders are up as well. The European conglomerate says it has 417 firm orders through the first nine months of this year.

Like Delta says, good goes around.

In any case, it looks like new golf clubs all around in the sales departments of both companies. Respective countries' courses beware...
