Aero-TV: Shelter From The Storm – The New AirCam Enclosure Option

Latest Option For The Unique Aircraft Is A Cockpit Canopy And Windows…

The Aircam is a unique aircraft by any measure. A two-place open-cockpit twin engine airplane that is designed for land and water operations. It has made a name for itself as a camera platform among some of the world's best-known nature publications.

But flying the aircraft has not always been the most comfortable experience. Some people just like the feeling of an enclosure around them. So, as Phil Lockwood, president and CEO of Lockwood Aircraft told ANN news editor Tom Patton at the Sebring Sport Aviation Expo, the solution was to create an enclosure for the Aircam cockpit.

Lockwood said that development of the enclosure was a long process, and several different iterations of the enclosure were tried and discarded along the way.

With the final product, after initial installation of some additional hardware, the Aircam can go from an open-cockpit airplane to an enclosed-cockpit in about 30 minutes. Reversing the process takes about the same amount of time, Lockwood said.

With the popularity of the Aircam as a camera platform, Lockwood said that they will probably begin working on camera windows for the enclosure in the not too distant future.

The enclosure can be fitted on any Aircam and will set you back $12,500.
