Not Surprising: AERO Friedrichshafen Cancels 2021 Show

Corona Crisis Forces Decision To Cancel AERO 2021, Aim For 2022 Instead

AERO will not take place this year. The postulated replacement date in 2021 would have put it in direct competition with Oshkosh, and only days apart. Numerous vendors told ANN, "that won't fly" -- so Wednesday's announcement comes as no surprise.

Messe Friedrichshafen has stated that they have, "...now taken a decision in view of the travel restrictions in Europe due to the COVID 19 pandemic. The organizers are now turning their focus to the upcoming trade shows.

Messe Friedrichshafen has canceled AERO, the Global trade show for General Aviation, for this year. In view of the travel and event restrictions due to the COVID 19 pandemic, it had already moved the originally envisaged AERO date from April to summer at the beginning of this year. But at present, despite rising vaccination numbers in Europe, it is foreseeable that AERO 2021 will not be allowed to take place in July either."

The Head of AERO Roland Bosch, and project manager Tobias Bretzel, explained that, "It is with a heavy heart that we have made this decision to cancel the leading trade show for General Aviation for the second time. However, a decision at this point in time is right and fair. We are now creating planning certainty for our exhibitors, visitors and suppliers. The current pandemic situation does not allow us to hold a trade show at the moment. However, we are looking ahead to the EUROPEAN ROTORS trade show, which will be held in Cologne from November 16 to 18, 2021, and also to AERO 2022 (April 27-30, 2022), where we will welcome exhibitors and visitors back to Friedrichshafen."

The AERO 2022 organizations states that the event will be all about the industry's restart after the pandemic and will offer a complete range of products for all sectors of General Aviation. Aircraft ranging from civil drones to gliders, microlights and gyrocopters, helicopters, touring and training aircraft with piston or turboprop engines, and business jets will be present. Sustainable aviation, new propulsion systems, state-of-the-art avionics, services and accessories for pilots are other focal points of the show. These topics will also be covered in the AERO Conferences, making Europe's largest General Aviation event also an important platform for knowledge exchange and continuing education and training.

At the 28th AERO, around 700 exhibitors from 38 countries showed their products and services. Messe Friedrichshafen notes that it wants to build on this success with AERO 2022. This show starts on April 27th and lasts until April 30th, 2022.
