ALPA Members Make The Rounds On Capitol Hill

Lobbying Members Of Congress To Eliminate Disparities In Crew Rest Rules

Members of the Air Line Pilots Association, Int’l, have been making the rounds among members of Congress on Capitol Hill in support of H.R. 4350, better known as the Safe Skies Act. This legislation is designed to eliminate the air cargo carve-out from federal pilot fatigue regulations.

ALPA reports in its online newsletter that in the past three weeks, pilots have visited more than 100 congressional offices on this issue, and the union says they have successfully enlisted a dozen lawmakers to join Rep. Chip Cravaack (R-MN) and Rep. Tim Bishop (D-NY) as cosponsors of the bill. Armed with a recently updated fact sheet on H.R. 4350 along with the previous briefing, pilots are telling members of Congress what it says are the real facts about cargo rest rules and refuting what it calls "misinformation" that has been distributed by the cargo industry.

The union is urging its members to participate in the grass-roots lobbying effort through its "Call to Action" campaign. Details are available in the members section of the ALPA website.
