Sagem, ASAP Avionics Unveil A Touch Of Glass For R44

EFIS Upgrade Now Available For Robinson Helos

ASAP Avionics and Sagem Avionics tell ANN the two companies teamed up recently to produce one very impressive Robinson R44 Astro. The helo underwent a significant upgrade during its 2,200-hour overhaul, and came out with a state-of-the-art EFIS-equipped panel.

The SAGEM Integrated Cockpit Display System (ICDS) utilizes two large screen 8” LCD displays, one for Primary Flight Display (PFD) and one Multi Function Display (MFD). The MFD can display various layouts and can quickly be switched to a large format moving map with terrain and traffic awareness TCAD or Cameras – both regular NTSC and FLIR to the default composite screen which features half engine monitoring and half moving map.

Representatives with both companies tell ANN the R44 has been modified for use as a surveillance platform ideal for police/enforcement and military uses -- and would also make an excellent IFR training helicopter.

Because of its ability to see everything around it in any conditions the partners have dubbed the modification the "EAGLE." Initially aimed at the retrofit market, this upgrade gives the R44 pilot much improved situational awareness -- and thereby greatly enhanced safety.

"We believe these additions will add further value to an already excellent machine," said Mark Sylvester, president of ASAP Avionics.

Sagem Avionics provides avionics products and services to Part 23, 25, 27, and 29 aircraft and helicopters.
