Airborne 04.22.19: Cirrus Emergency AD, Indoor Skydiving, Praetor 600

Also: CFI PROficiency Initiative, Damaged Falcon Heavy Core, Enhanced MD 969, ICAO’s 193rd Member

To the surprise of few who have chronicled the many issues troubling the Cirrus SF50 program, the FAA has issued an emergency AD for SF50 Vision Jets following multiple reports of the stall warning and protection system (SWPS) or Electronic Stability & Protection (ESP) System engaging when not appropriate.

The SWPS or ESP systems may engage even when sufficient airspeed and proper angle of attack (AOA) exists for normal flight. This AD requires replacing the AOA sensors with improved AOA sensors, before further flight. Some 300 world-class indoor skydivers from 31 different countries are participating the third edition of the FAI World Indoor Skydiving Championships, which kicked off April 17 in the French city of Lille. Through this past weekend, they were fighting it out for a place on the podium in five separate disciplines, including individual freestyle and team formation flying. The event, the first FAI World Indoor Skydiving Championship to be held in France, took place at the Weembi wind tunnel – one of the biggest wind tunnels in the world. The young sport of indoor skydiving is one of the fastest growing FAI disciplines. Brazil’s Civil Aviation Authority, ANAC, has certified the Embraer Praetor 600, which was introduced at NBAA-BACE 2018. The Praetor 600 is the first super-midsize jet with full fly-by-wire technology, which powers the Active Turbulence Reduction system. The Praetor 600 features Collins Aerospace’s newest edition of the Pro Line Fusion flight deck. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne!!!
