Model Makers Move Up To A Bigger Scale

Assisting In Restoring Full-Size Airplane Parts For GA Museum

A group of people who have make a lifelong hobby of building airplane models has moved up in scale ... and are now assisting the National Museum of Commercial Aviation in Forest Park, GA to restore full-size airplanes.

The South Metro Model Society which is based on the south side of Atlanta has been recruited by the museum to restore such things as a Boeing 727 cockpit, and they are currently working on a simulator that will become an attraction at the museum.

One of the club's members, Jim Blasco, is a retired aircraft maintenance technician from Northwest Airlines. Blasco told NeighborNewspapers.com that the club's members "bring their own knowledge and expertise from model building as well as working in the aviation industry in order to help with the project.”

The clubs members have also donated multiple models to the museum for display. The club is comprised mainly of active or retired transportation workers who are happy to share their expertise with other members as well as the museum.
