Seattle IAC Chapter Cancels Apple Turnover Competition

Cites Wildfires Burning In The Region As The Reason For Shelving The Event

The Seattle Chapter of the International Aerobatic Club has cancelled the Apple Turnover Competition planned for Sept. 7-9 citing wildfires burning in the Columbia River Basin.

Jerry Riedinger, co-DC of the IAC Seattle Chapter, posted the news on Facebook Wednesday. "The all-pervasive smoke has created IFR conditions throughout the area (Ephrata AWOS is now reporting 2 miles and 2600 broken), and the many, many fire TFR’s allow almost no routes to Ephrata from Western Washington, Western Oregon, or California, so even if the smoke were to (miraculously) clear few could get here. Please stay safe and stay home.

"We’ll see whether we can have a function in Ephrata later in the year. In the meantime, Apple Turnover 2017 will not happen."

Apple Turnover is a 5-category power, 2-category glider aerobatic competition in Washington’s Columbia River Basin.
