President And CEO Of Schwertner Farms Inc. Is An ATP-Rated Pilot
The Board of Directors of the NBAA has elected Jim Schwertner as the organization's newest director. Schwertner brings a wealth of business, aviation and non-profit executive experience to NBAA’s board. The Texas Tech University alumnus earned a Bachelor of Science degree in agricultural economics in 1974, and today serves as president and CEO of Schwertner Farms, Inc., d/b/a Capitol Land & Livestock. Schwertner also chairs the board of Schwertner State Bank, and is a partner in MidTex Livestock Market and Lockhart Livestock Market in Texas.
Schwertner has been recognized with the Distinguished Alumni Award from Texas Tech University’s College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources, and the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association Vision Award.
In addition to his business pursuits, Schwertner serves on the Seton Medical Center Williamson Foundation Board of Trustees. Texas Gov. Rick Perry appointed him to a six-year term on the Texas A&M Board of Regents in 2009, with committee assignments including finance, audit and policy review, buildings and military training. Schwertner’s past service has included serving on the boards of the Texans for General Aviation, the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association and the Capitol Area Diabetes Association. His experience in industry representation includes positions with the Texas Aviation Advisory Board and the National Beef Board.
Schwertner is an air transport-rated pilot who flies helicopters and seaplanes, is type-rated in the Cessna Citation CE-525S, and holds a world speed record in a Piper Navajo.
Schwertner's initial term on the NBAA Board is for one year, and in October he is expected to stand for election for a three-year term on the board. He will serve NBAA without compensation.
