McClellan Named Director Of Publications; Smith Moves To
VP-Airventure
EAA has announced several changes and upgrades to
its publications and AirVenture planning staff. “These are
staff moves that will upgrade EAA’s ability to reach even
greater success in two of our highest-visibility areas: AirVenture
and publications,” said EAA President/CEO Rod Hightower
announcing the changes Thursday. “Both of these areas are
essential to our mission of growing participation in aviation and
continue to be among the most valuable assets to EAA
members.”
Mac McClellan, who last year joined EAA as a contributor to its
publications, has been named the organization’s Director of
Publications in a full-time capacity. McClellan, former
editor-in-chief of FLYING Magazine, began writing for EAA’s
publications and electronic communications in October 2010. In his
new role, he will be responsible for the daily management of
EAA’s publications as well as future efforts to expand the
reach of the flagship publication, Sport Aviation.
Mary Jones, who had served as EAA Director of Publications for
the past two years, including through Sport Aviation’s
extensive redesign and re-launch in January 2010, will remain with
EAA as Executive Editor for the publications group. Jones’
experience and background within the lightplane, ultralight, and
homebuilt aircraft communities, will remain valuable in those areas
long served by EAA.
EAA Young Eagles co-chairman Jeff Skiles will begin contributing
a monthly column for Sport Aviation based on his own aviation
experiences. Skiles has an extensive aviation background, extending
from his early years as the child of two EAA-member pilots, as a
professional and airline pilot, and his rediscovery of recreational
aviation. His first column will appear in the October issue.
EAA vice president Adam Smith – who previously was
responsible for the publications area – has been named Vice
President – AirVenture Features and Attractions. He has been
extensively involved in these activities in past years, but will
also add many of the AirVenture organizing duties handled by former
EAA President and Chairman Tom Poberezny prior to his retirement
last July.
