FreeFlight Systems Partners With Palu Innovations

Will Bring Advanced NextGen Landing Systems To The U.S. Market

FreeFlight Systems has announced the formation of a partnership with Palu Innovations of Lomazzo, Italy to support development and deployment of Palu's Advanced NextGen Landing Systems(ANGELS).

ANGELS is an innovative, high precision situational awareness enhancement for rotorcraft operations. The system is designed to aid approach and landing operations for both onshore and offshore operations. The initial offshore focus will target wind farms, and oil and gas related rotorcraft operations.

The system takes advantage of the mandated ADS-B equipment already installed on the helicopter, using the high quality aircraft position data that the ADS-B system transmits, along with real time meteorological and hazard data, to determine the optimum approach and then to provide steering information to the pilot.

"There is naturally a lot of focus and attention on ADS-B Equipage between now and the end of 2019, but the conversation will move toward applications and operational improvements as equipage becomes widespread" Said Tim Taylor, CEO of FreeFlight Systems. "The ANGELS system is one of the first to take advantage of that equipage, and deliver some real operational benefits. Our focus as industry leaders in NextGen technology is to deliver those benefits to our customers, and the partnership with Palu Innovations is a great way to make this happen".

Palu is leading a consortium of companies that bring specialist knowledge to the program. FreeFlight Systems is providing prototype airborne and ground based ADS-B equipment in support of the program, along with domain expertise in rotorcraft equipage and operations. The system is designed to operate on both 1090 MHz transponder and 978 MHz UAT based ADS-B datalinks.
