Meeting To Be Held At Vance Brand Airport June 3
The City of Longmont will host a public presentation on the legal limitations of regulating noise at Vance Brand Municipal Airport on Wednesday, June 3, 2015 from 5:30 to 7 pm at the Longmont Senior Center located at 910 Longs Peak Avenue.
The presentation will be made by John Putnam from the law firm of Kaplan, Kirsch and Rockwell, a national law firm with a practice focused on solving problems that involve environmental, land use, public lands, energy, and transportation law. Putnam is the City’s special counsel contracted to provide legal advice and analysis on airport issues.
Rather than taking questions from the audience, questions will be answered from those submitted in advance. Questions can be submitted to Longmont Airport Manager David Slayter via email at David.Slayter@LongmontColorado.gov. All questions must be submitted no later than Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at 4 pm, so that Putnam can tailor his remarks to the group as well as come prepared with any background research required for these written questions. Putnam can address about 10-15 questions, so large groups are encouraged gather questions and submit them as a group. The most commonly asked questions are the most likely to be addressed during the meeting.
The Vance Brand Municipal Airport is owned and operated by the City of Longmont, CO. Longmont is a home rule city that is run by a Council-Manager form of government. A seven member airport advisory board is appointed by City Council to provide them with recommendations on long-term planning, land-use, and necessary improvements to the airport. Located at 229 Airport Road, just west of the city, the airport is accessible from Colorado Highway 119 and Airport Road. Airport services are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The airport has a 4,800 foot concrete runway and parallel taxiway.
The airport and one of its tenants, Mile-Hi Skydiving, have been the target of complaints by a small but vocal group of residents who were recently handed a setback in court concerning airport noise.
