TKM Avionics Announces New Slide-In Replacement For King KX155/165

Direct Plug-And-Play Replacements Compatible With 14- Or 28-Volt Aircraft

TKM Avionics has developed a direct slide-in replacement for King KX155/165 series of NAV/COM radios. The company expects to begin deliveries of the owner-installable replacement units this summer.

“These 8.33 kHz EASA compliant radios are compatible with both 14 or 28 volt aircraft and are direct plug-and-play replacements that are affordable and simple to install and use,” noted Ken Beckemeyer, TKM’s President and Chief Executive Officer. “They feature all-digital technology and are software-based so they can be easily upgraded as well. We’ve engineered numerous features and upgrades into this unit that will significantly improve and expand on the performance of the radio it replaces. We’re taking orders now for deliveries that will begin this summer,” he added.

The newest addition to TKM Avionics’ impressive line of upgraded retrofit radios features active/standby flip-flop, high visibility alphanumeric touch point displays and a high sensitivity tuner with improved output quality. Designed specifically to be owner-installable, it will fit and interface with existing equipment in the panel. It’s also intuitive to operate and makes adjusting volume, squelch and display brightness simple and efficient. It’s equipped with a Master volume knob but the Nav and Com volumes can also be adjusted separately. Frequency memory with user-defined channel codes for both Nav and Com, automatic and manual brightness controls and graph displays for volume, digital squelch, brightness and transmit level adjustments will also reduce the pilot’s workload.

Safety is also enhanced with built-in overtemp mitigation, improved transient protection, 10 watt minimum output power and integrated Faults page including evaluation of antenna and cable health. TKM has placed more than 37,000 reliable replacement radios during its many years of existence. The company is a world leader in building all-new IFR/TSO’d navcoms that replace legacy radios that are no longer supported. All TKM comm or navcom radios are built to slide-in, to precisely fit legacy racks and connectors, virtually eliminating installation costs for most owners.

In addition to the new King KX 155/165 series, TKM navcom radios are available to replace Narco Comm11 series, KX-170/175 and Cessna/ARC RT385 series navcoms, including the 328,508 and 528. Using all-new components with digital flip-flop tuning, TKM replacement navcoms offer better channel stability and audio quality than the half century old units they replace.

TKM units replicate the functions of legacy navcoms and drive existing VOR/ILS heads with the same output. Beckemeyer pointed out that TKM navcoms can literally be found in fixed wing and rotary aircraft operating all over the world. "Now, more than ever, we’re focused on quality and advanced engineering to ensure our systems offer ‘plug and play’ ease of installation,” he said.
